2014             Left Over nominated for the South African Literary Award for Poetry,                                 and for the international Glenna Lushei Award for African Poetry.

         2013            Winner of the Sol Plaatje European Union Poetry Award.

 2010               South African Literary Award for Poetry for Separating the Seas (UKZN Press, 2007).  Founded by the national Ministry of Arts & Culture, the South African Literary Awards honour South African literary practitioners and legends, while encouraging the advancement of literary heritage and practice.

2010               Guest poet at the Poetry Africa Festival, Durban.

2010               Invited dramaturge on a two-week residency for South African and Dutch scriptwriters organized by the Twist Theatre Development Project during the National Arts Festival in Grahamstown.

2009           DALRO Prize for the best poem to appear in New Coin magazine in 2008, awarded for the cycle of poems, ‘Anatomy’.

2009              University of KwaZulu-Natal Competitive Research Grant.

2008               Merit Award, University of KwaZulu-Natal.

2008               Third prize in the 2008 Inglis House Poetry Contest, US.

2008               Writer in Residence, Caversham Centre for Writers and Artists,  Lidgetton.

2007               Joint winner of best script at the Performing Arts Network of South Africa (PANSA) Festival of Reading of New Writing.

2004               Jury Prize for best script at the Performing Arts Network of South Africa (PANSA) Festival of Reading of New Writing.

2004               Guest poet at the Poetry Africa Festival, Durban.

2003               BBC advanced radio drama residency sponsored by the Performing Arts Network of South Africa and the British Council.

2003               2nd Prize in the BBC African Performance 2003 radio drama competition.

 2002               Ingrid Jonker Prize for a debut collection of poetry, Time like Stone, University of Natal Press. 2000.

 2000               2nd Prize in the Noupoort Reward for Playwriting.

 1998               Helen Martins Fellowship from the Dramatic and Literary Rights’ Organisation to undertake writing residency in Nieu Bethesda.

1997               President’s Award for the best paper by a first-time speaker at the South African Museum’s Association (SAMA) 16th national conference.

1995               Merit Award in BBC African Radio Theatre Award.

1992               Merit Award in Amstel Playwright of the Year.

1991               Macmillan Southern African Playwriting Award.

1987               1st Prize in the BBC African Radio Theatre Award.
